Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions for Customers

Q: How does Clutch work?

A: It's simple! We've designed our service to be as convenient as possible.

  1. Get an Upfront Price: Browse our list of services to get a clear, transparent price for the work you need.
  2. Book Your Time & Place: Choose a time that works for your schedule. Our mechanics will come to your home or office.
  3. Relax While We Work: A certified mechanic arrives to perform the service while you go about your day. You only pay after the work is complete.

Q: When is my card charged?

A: When you book a service, we place a pre-authorization hold on your card for the total amount of the service. This is similar to how a hotel holds a deposit. Your card is not actually charged until the mechanic has completed the service and marks the job as finished.

Q: Who are the mechanics? Are they qualified?

A: The quality and trustworthiness of our mechanics is our top priority. Every mechanic on the Clutch platform is a vetted professional who has gone through a background check. They are experienced technicians who we trust to provide dealership-quality service.

Q: What if the service I need isn't listed?

A: If you need a more complex repair or don't see your specific service listed, please message your selected mechanic directly. Provide as much detail as you can about your vehicle and the issue, and we will have a mechanic provide a custom quote for the job.

Q: Where can the service be performed?

A: Our mechanics can perform work at your home, your office, or any safe, level location where they have permission to be. A driveway or a designated spot in a parking lot works perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions for Mechanics

Q: How do I get paid for jobs?

A: Payouts are handled automatically and securely through our payment partner, Stripe. When you join Clutch, you will connect your bank account via a secure Stripe portal. Once you mark a job as complete, the payment is processed and automatically deposited into your account on Fridays.

Q: How do I get new jobs?

A: When a customer books one of your services, you will be instantly notified via email and on your Clutch dashboard. You will see all the details of the job, including the vehicle, the service required, and your potential earnings. You can then choose to accept or decline the job based on your availability.

Q: Am I responsible for sourcing my own parts?

A: Yes. As an independent professional on the Clutch platform, you are responsible for sourcing and providing the high-quality parts needed for each job. The price you set for each service listing should include the estimated cost of these parts and your labor.

Q: What do I need to do to join the Clutch platform?

A: We look for experienced and professional mechanics to partner with. Our requirements typically include proof of relevant certifications (such as ASE), and passing a background check. Our goal is to create a network of the most trusted mechanics in the Indianapolis area.
